At Special Steps, we are passionate about working collaboratively, learning and sharing of good practice with local Early Years providers, SEND teams, professionals and students. Our aim is to strengthen inclusive provision across the community by opening our doors, sharing what works, and learning with others.
Visit Special Steps to Observe, Learn and Share
We invite practitioners from nurseries, preschools, childminders and schools, any proffesionals workig in the early years sector along with students, to visit Special Steps and:
- observe our SEND-specialist environment;
- explore our sensory friendly spaces;
- see how we support engagement, communication and regulation;
- ask questions and share approaches used in your own setting;
- learn strategies that can be adapted for mainstream environments.
Whether you are supporting a child with emerging needs, working towards an EHCP, or simply wanting to strenghen your SEND provision and knowledge, we are here to help.
Word Well – Our Specialist Early Communication Curriculum
Word Well is our in-house curriculum designed to support the development of early communication skills using:
- core words;
- repetition and predictable routines;
- meaningful and motivating activities;
- a structured, visual and language-rich approach.
